Dom is Matt’s cousin so when him and Amanda asked if I could photograph them for their engagement session I was honoured! They are so fun to be around and have such outgoing personalities with hearts of gold. We ate ice cream, watched the sun set and explored one of my favourite little hidden locations close to home. The images we were able to create really do their relationship justice: fun, intimate, spontaneous. I cannot wait for their wedding in the new year!
Here’s a little on how they met:
“Domenic and I actually met in second grade. We were in the same class. We both remember each other at that very young age. By grade four we had developed a “crush” on each other. I would pick on Dom and call him names at recess and he would chase me around. That year, 1999, our school put on the musical The Wizard of Oz and Dom and I were both casted as munchkins. During the rehearsal we remember our friends asking each of us if we’d like to “date” the other person and we both said yes. Domenic was my “at school” boyfriend for 2 years and during that time we laughed a lot and shared our first kiss. I ended up moving schools in grade 6 and that was the end of that…or so we thought! Fast forward to 2016 and both of us ended up single and on the dating app “Bumble.” At first when we started chatting we thought it would be nice to catch up as old friends, however when we finally met up for a date something just clicked. We were laughing and carrying on and reminiscing for hours at a favourite restaurant. I remember sitting there and being the last people to leave as the restaurant was closing and I just knew that we had been brought back together for a reason. Our families love each other and we are truly so well matched with our values, sense of humour and overall life goals.
We both wanted to see ourselves, our personalities, reflected in the photos. We are silly together and love to laugh and also share such a special bond that we wanted a bit of everything captured in our photos. Jess did an incredible job making us feel like we could chat and sing and laugh and do whatever during our session. Our photos turned out incredible!”
