When Joyce & Gabriel got in touch with me to document their intimate midweek wedding this May I was very excited, and even more excited when we decided on an intimate sunrise engagement in their condo in downtown Toronto. An orthopedic surgeon and a software developer, they met in grad school in Washington, DC. Now they are settling in Toronto and opted for an intimate and nontraditional wedding celebration. They are having a Wednesday ceremony with their closest family & friends followed by dinner. When planning an engagement session, we decided to stick to their simple theme. We spent a quiet morning at their condo, making breakfast and watching their favourite movie La La Land. Despite it being freezing outside, we were cozy in their light filled home. I’m thankful for couples who are willing to be vulnerable around me and open me with open arms into their lives. Deciding to leave my career in research and decline my PhD was the riskiest but most rewarding decision I’ve made. I get to document the lives of incredible people, making memories & heirlooms for them to pass down for generations.
