I’m entering my third full-time year as a photographer and it’s my goal to document more intimacy. Working off a shot list has never gone well. Observing relationships and charged moments that you know you’ll never understand between couples is what inspired me. I’ve thrown out the script, ditched all the posing tips that I thought I needed to incorporate in every shoot and decided that I want couples to dictate their session. To achieve this I have to get couples comfortable. I ask them to play their favourite music, talk to them about their travels and food they like to eat. I get to know them. Then, when we know enough about each other and I can tell by their body language they are more comfortable with me, I ask them to tell the other their favourite personality trait about them and why. I step back and observe how they react to hearing some of the kindest words pour out of their lovers mouth.
Sarah & Jessica embraced this approach in their beautiful femme engagement session. I’m honoured to have been able to capture their raw emotion and connection, and cannot wait for their wedding next month. Check out our session together below.
