Emily and Lewis threw a beautiful end of summer Ontario Farmhouse wedding and I’m still dreaming of that gorgeous property.
What was most important to you when planning your wedding?
We wanted to keep things intimate, authentic and reflective of us and what we love! We didn’t care so much about wedding traditions, we just wanted to throw the type of party that we’d love to attend.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Lewis: When I saw Emily for the first time, I wasn’t expecting to be that emotional, but she did it — she made me cry. Emily: When Lewis was walked down the aisle by our dog, Felix. Everyone was up from their seats, yelling and cheering. Everyone was having fun already and it totally set the tone for the ceremony and rest of the night!
Walk us through your planning process (how did you decide on the wedding you had?!)
Our planning ‘must-haves’ were being outdoors, plentiful food and drink, and a great dance party with live music.
We found a beautiful farmhouse property rental in Collingwood, where we stayed for the full week with friends and family. The Collingwood/Georgian Bay area is where we spend most of our weekends getting out of the city, so it made sense for us! We didn’t have a first dance, cake cutting, or reception introductions. Instead, we had a longer cocktail hour, we walked with all of our guests from cocktail hour into the barn, and sat at a large table with friends vs. a head table. It was perfect, we felt so relaxed and present and had so much more time to be with everyone.
Let’s talk about that gorgeous stationary!
Ohhh yes. I’m a graphic designer so I had a lot of fun creating all of our stationery, printed materials and signage. We brought almost all of the decor from our home too. In the end, it was actually really nice to be so familiar and connected with all the details that were part of the day.
